A few days ago, I wrote this on Facebook:
“As you accommodate the desires of those around you, don’t forget to accommodate your desires, too. Give yourself space to want what you want and actually get it.”
It’s far too easy to forget about your dreams when you are helping other people accomplish things. I have often found myself encouraging someone else to do something more than I was encouraging myself to take action. I have fought hard to empower someone else to make their vision happen, but have not been as committed to my own. It happens. No need to feel guilt or ashamed. Becoming aware actually allows us to make changes. Sometimes, though, it can be hard to really know what you want to do or create when you have been giving all that energy to others.
This is where S.P.A.C.E. comes in. S.P.A.C.E. is what I do when I need to get back connected to my voice and my desires. It is how I actually figure out what I want. If we aren’t clear about what we want, it can feel impossible to actually get it. Uncovering what you want is a process. Give yourself that time. Cause what you want may not be what someone else wants. You may want something really simple or something more complex. You may want something short term or long term. You may want something different from what you read in an article or blog. Or something different than what you wanted in an earlier stage in your life. You are evolving and your dreams evolve right along with you.
I am finding in my own life that the essence of what I want is really simple. Sometimes so simple that I miss it because I can get so busy in my mind. Thoughts just running a million miles a minute. Consuming too much social media or blogs can make us question everything. We have to be brave enough to listen to our hearts and find our own voice. We have to be okay with letting our desires be simple. We have to find more creative ways to get there so that we don’t limit our progress. When you start to give yourself space, you can focus less on the outside chatter and more on what your inner voice is saying.
Here are is how you can give yourself S.P.A.C.E.:
Silence. Find ways to get quiet. Meditate, take a nap, turn off the tv and computer, put your phone on silent. Do whatever you can to rest your mind and find quiet.
Play: Become like a little kid and do things just for fun. Find something that you love to do just for the sake of doing it.
Act: Take inspired action. Take small steps consistently to gain momentum for your big leaps.
Connect: Make it a point to connect with people that inspire you in real life. Get coffee, go to a museum, watch a movie and laugh.
Envision: Visualize what you want. Imagine what your ideal life looks like. Think about the infinite ways to get there.
Find S.P.A.C.E. and hear what your heart is really saying.
